Joining Instructions

Come sailing :

Over and above everything our objective is that we all go home in the same state of well being as we set out - including the boat and its equipment.

Whilst sailing  is an adventure sport and a modicum of discomfort can be expected from time to time, our second objective is to for everyone to enjoy themselves, in a relaxed and easy going atmosphere.
Its expensive, so try not to break stuff or be too stupid.

Our home berth :

Our home berth is a piled mooring in Pwllheli harbour. Annabella lies on the outside of a UFO 34 (white boat) called Rebellion and is accessed by a short trip in the tender from the slipway by the old harbour master's office.

If we arrange to meet up with you on the hard (landside) it will generally be near there, which is on the same side of the harbour as the RNLI station or the 'Off Axis' club.

You will need some foot wear which is either water proof or quick drying or be prepared for a short bare foot paddle. Life jackets are absolutely compulsory in the tender - at all times  / all the time. Bring one if you have one - if not let us know and we will make the necessary arrangements.

Keeping all your valuables / car keys / phones / cameras / ipads etc in the dry bag during the tender trip is advisable in case of upset. Likewise - restrain spectacles and sunglasses with a retainer or sports band.

Boarding at the other end is via a short rope ladder.

Bringing stuff :

Before setting out,  our advice is to make two piles of things to bring: 'absolute essentials' and 'nice to have'.
Only bring the absolute essentials.
Please pack them in soft luggage - for example a sailing or sports bag - that can folded up, rolled etc for storage in a locker.

What to bring :

An outline list would include:

Personal : Medication / sun block / toiletries etc / towel/ sunglassess/ lip salve / sea sickness bands - transdermal - tablets.
Technical clothing : foul weather jacket + salopettes / sea boots / life jacket / gloves / hat / harness / lanyard if you have them.
We have a small stock of foul weather gear etc on board for lending.
Sailing clothing : Wool jumper or fleece / peaked cap + retainer / tee shirt / long sleeve shirt / quick dry trousers such as Craghoppers etc / shorts/ deck shoes or trainers / undies to suit
Shore side clothing : Some yacht clubs will expect smart casual.
Gents : trousers, shirt with collar / jacket / shoes which aren't trainers.
Ladies - you get the idea...
Gadgets etc : Camera / mobile / sailing knife + lanyard
Food : as below

Eating, drinking and merriment :

Let us know of any dietary requirements or preferences.
Please, please only bring food which fits into the victualing schedule ie: has been agreed in advance.
Note that we don't generally keep milk on board, as it tends to go off, spill and generally cause a nuisance.
We will catch seafish if we can  - usually mackerel - to eat if the conditions allow.
An absolutely rule is that consumption of alcohol is only allowed after tying up to something permanent for that day. If you'd like to share - bring what you feel is a nice bottle of wine.
Smoking of any kind below decks is not allowed - including 'e-cigarettes' following that accident to the new upholstery.
Recreational pharmaceuticals of any kind are not allowed under any circumstances.

Make sure we know :

Your mobile phone number.
Details of an emergency contact shoreside.
Any relevant medical conditions etc
Any dietary requirements or preferences.
Any predisposition to seasickness / motion sickness / travel sickness.

Just a couple more things :

Annabella is a distinctive, well known boat in the area. We would like her crew to be a credit to her on shore and at sea.

We don't accept payment as such, but contributions to the cost of  fuel, food  and any breakages would be considered welcome.

Whilst we have a relaxed and easy going atmo, the skipper is responsible in law for the boat, the crew and any third parties. Sometimes there will not be time to workshop all his requirements in detail.

Enjoy your time with Annabella
